Katie Holmes makes wet hair look like an absolute statement style

Everyone has had to rush out the door with their hair still damp. Maybe you showered too quickly, were too impatient to blow-dry after coloring, or just got out of a workout or sauna. Part of Katie Holmes’ appeal has always been her down-to-earth nature, and her latest day-out look proves she’s been in that situation herself. Spotted on a summer afternoon stroll in New York City, Holmes’ wet hair isn’t the fake humidity that so many of her fellow A-listers regularly sport on the red carpet—it’s the real thing, and it actually looks pretty damn cool.

Holmes was spotted out on her day in her usual uniform of relaxed, on-trend pieces. In this case, she wore a loose-fitting button-down shirt in a summery shade of brown, paired with trendy fisherman sandals and a pair of cozy-looking classic gray sweatpants. With her oversized sunglasses and leather bag tucked into the crook of her arm, she embodies a particular kind of ease in the city—she’s strikingly chic, but it doesn’t seem like she spends much time being chic. Holmes’ wet hair completes the entire look, giving the impression that she has too many important things to do to bother with the blowdryer.

Importantly, Holmes’ hair isn’t soaking wet—it’s just a little damp, as if she dried it two-thirds of the way through and then decided that was good enough (understandable). Especially when paired with her sienna shirt, the natural waves that form in the wet hair really bring out its three-dimensional color, especially the red and blonde highlights that run throughout the hair.

Your mother and grandmother have probably warned you many times not to leave the house with wet hair because you might catch a cold. But is there any truth to their accusations? Sort of. While the water itself won’t cause you to catch a virus or anything, reports the Cleveland Clinic, it can make you colder. And since your body is working overtime to keep you warm, it can cause a slight drop in your immune response. This is especially true during the fall and winter seasons, though, or if you spend a lot of time indoors with air conditioning.

Considering Holmes just took her damn hair out while strolling through balmy New York, she’s totally fine—and possibly starting a new trend at the same time.
