Kate Trefry’s play is a prequel to the Duffer Brothers’ hit Netflix series – and is set 24 years before the first episode of “Stranger Things” aired in 1983. It begins with young Jim Hopper unable to start his car, Bob Newby’s sister Patty not taking his radio show seriously, and Joyce Maldonado trying to graduate as quickly as possible to leave Hawkins. But a new student, Henry Creel, comes to town and his family sees that the shadows of the past are not so easy to escape.

The play will premiere at London’s Phoenix Theatre in 2023 and is produced by Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions, with the Duffer Brothers serving as creative producers.

According to reports, Stranger Things: The First Shadow is the first part of a trilogy and follow-up productions in London and on Broadway are in the works, although no confirmed information has been provided by the production company yet.

The fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” is currently being filmed and is scheduled to be released on Netflix in 2025.

Tickets for Stranger Things: The First Shadow will go on sale September 13th by registering at StrangerThingsBroadway.com, with general sales beginning September 17th.
