VOTE: Better Chris Cornell Band

This week on Loudwire Nights, we celebrate the amazing vocal talents of the late singer Chris Cornell and try to decide which of his bands – Audioslave or Soundgarden – was better. That’s the central battle in this week’s Chuck’s Fight Club.

Cornell began his career in the ’80s as the frontman for Seattle-based heavyweights Soundgarden. Their career really took off in the early ’90s with the boom in grunge music, producing top 10 albums and a string of radio hits, from “Outshine” to “Blow Up the Outside World.” Seemingly still at the peak of their career, the band broke up after the release of “Outshine” in 1996. Bottom on the topbut they eventually reunited and released another studio album, which was released in 2012. King Animalbefore Cornell’s death.

After Soundgarden, Chris Cornell found his stride again as the frontman of the supergroup Audioslave, which included three members of Rage Against the Machine, with Cornell taking the lead with his powerful vocals. After the early successes of “Cochise” and “Like a Stone,” Audioslave remained solid performers throughout the 2000s, releasing a total of three studio albums.

As with all Chuck’s Fight Club fights, Loudwire Nights host Chuck Armstrong will introduce the fight during the 8 p.m. hour of Monday’s Loudwire Nights broadcast. On Tuesday, he will devote part of the 8 p.m. hour to breaking down the arguments for Audioslave, and Chuck’s defense of Soundgarden follows on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Your votes and ratings will ultimately determine the winner, whose music will be heard in a block during the 8 p.m. hour on Friday.
