Cannabis users and retailers alike in the Buckeye State are celebrating today that the sale of marijuana for recreational use has finally been legalized.
Last November, Ohio voters passed a new law legalizing recreational marijuana use for adults 21 and older and sales by licensed businesses. After eight months of drafting the regulations by the Division of Cannabis Control, select existing medical dispensaries will be converted today to serve adults as well.
Medical marijuana has been relatively commonplace in Ohio since the first dispensaries opened in 2019, and the new law ensured that these vetted, licensed establishments would be the first to be allowed to sell products for recreational use. Theory Wellness in Sherwood is taking full advantage of this opportunity.
“We have been helping people with chronic pain and other conditions for several years,” said Braden Ratliff, director of pharmacy at Theory. “Now, recreational customers can also purchase our products without the need for a prescription.”
Newer consumers will find a variety of products that go far beyond the loose marijuana leaf most are familiar with.
“Just as some people prefer a cold beer while others enjoy a glass of wine, there are many ways to consume marijuana responsibly,” Ratliff said. “At Theory Wellness, we offer gummies, vape extracts, tinctures, flavored beverages and more. People can control exactly how much they consume and rest assured that everything has been independently tested and labeled for safety.”
As legal marijuana becomes more commonplace, copycat products are finding their way into gas stations and supermarkets. There are no government-controlled regulations for safety or product testing on these products, so the old adage “buyer beware” applies.
At Theory Wellness, however, the focus is on selling proven products that their medical customers know and buy.
