Trump falls behind Harris in betting markets for the first time

According to major betting markets tracked by FOX Business, former President Trump is no longer the favorite to beat Vice President Harris in the 2024 race for the White House.

As of Monday morning, Harris is the favorite for the presidential election at BetUS with a probability of 55% over Trump. This puts the Democratic candidate in the lead for the first time since the platform opened.

Over the weekend, the two presidential candidates were neck and neck on this website.

Traders on prediction website PolyMarket also favored Harris on Monday, giving her a 51 percent chance of winning, compared to Trump’s 46 percent. On PredictIt, where Harris has been ahead of Trump for weeks, bettors give Harris a 59 percent chance of winning, while Trump’s odds fell to 43 percent.

“Harris now leads not only in betting odds, but also in total bets placed and total dollar amount wagered. That’s an impressive feat considering she was named an official nominee just a week ago,” BetUS PR director Tim Williams told FOX Business.

He added: “Personally, I didn’t expect so much money to be put on Kamala so quickly, but that’s the way it is.”

Williams further noted that it appears that bets on Harris are also higher than those on Trump, which in the world of sports betting is often an indication of “sharp money,” or more professional bettors.

The momentum for Harris continues to grow following President Biden’s unprecedented decision to drop out of the race last month.

A survey from Wednesday by NPR, PBS and Marist found Harris with a three percentage point lead over Trump among registered voters, and a Marquette Law School poll conducted Thursday showed Harris with a four percentage point lead over the former president.
