The largest rubber duck in the world

16 to 18 August
Playland Park, Rye

This weekend, the world’s largest rubber duck will swim to Playland Beach to celebrate the second annual Duck Days of Summer. Mama Duck stands at a whopping 60 feet tall and her 10-foot duckling, Timmy, stands a whopping 10 feet tall. Bring the whole family to Playland to create lasting memories during the last weeks of summer. To celebrate the ducks, there will be exciting games, giveaways, photo opportunities, fireworks and live music all weekend long.

The OZ Land Festival

17 August, 1pm-7pm
The Artists’ Town, Peekskill

The fourth annual OZ Land Festival will take place this Saturday in Downtown Peekskill. The festival was founded by Scarlet Antonia to honor the connection between the city of Peekskill and L. Frank Baum, the creator of The Wizard of Oz. It is said that Baum found the inspiration for the yellow brick road here in Peekskill while attending the military academy in town. During the day, there is live entertainment, artists, and food and craft vendors on South Street. The festival celebrates diversity, community, and finding your true “home” as a place within yourself where you can make all your dreams come true. If you plan to attend, you are encouraged to dress up as your favorite “Oz” character. Donations received for the OZ Land Festival go to Antonia’s nonprofit organization, Antonia Arts Inc. The nonprofit is open to anyone who wants to express themselves in the creative and performing arts, regardless of background, age, race, or socioeconomic status.

CatVideoFest 2024

17 August, 2:30 p.m.
Jacob Burns Film Center, Pleasantville

If you love cats, you can’t miss this event in Pleasantville. The number one cat video festival is hosted by Oscilloscope Laboratories and SPCA Westchester, where a portion of the proceeds go. The 73-minute compilation features the latest and greatest cat videos, selected from countless hours of unique submissions. This event is held only in theaters and raises money for cats in need. Theater doors open an hour early so guests can say hello to a few adoptable cats from the SPCA. Tickets are $18.

Jewish Heritage Festival

18 August, 12-18 o’clock
Kensico Dam Plaza, Valhalla

The 48th annual Westchester Jewish Music & Arts Festival takes place this Sunday at Kensico Dam Plaza. This event is presented by the Westchester Jewish Council in partnership with Westchester County Parks. Guests can expect entertainment, food, and an exhibit area featuring Jewish art, jewelry, crafts, and local organizations.

Bedford Playhouse

Local bestselling author James Patterson speaks about his new book this Sunday at the Bedford Playhouse. Hard to kill is Patterson’s latest thriller starring Jane Smith, who is being hailed as his best character yet. Smith is considered the toughest, smartest and most carefree thriller heroine. Check out the book and buy your ticket to the author talk before it sells out. Tickets are $26.
