These cheap earphones from India are worth every penny!

The TWS earbuds market is wild in India, and if you are looking for a solid pair of budget wearables, chances are you will be “drowned” in the sea of choices. Thanks to this job, I am always on the lookout for new earbuds and trying them out. In this search, I recently came across the Nirvana Space boat, which is priced at 2,499 rupees ($29) in India. It turns out to be a pretty reliable pair of TWS earbuds for the price, and here’s why!

Somewhat familiar but cool (cheap) design

In a market where every other pair of earbuds looks the same, I was pleased to see the transparent, space-themed design of these BoAt earbuds. I have the Cosmic Black color variant with me, and I like the translucent case lid.

As soon as you open the case, the earphones are transparent center body greet you with flashing lights. Transparency and a beautiful appearance at the same time are difficult to achieve, and the innards staring right at you can be an ugly sight.

But boAt kept transparency low by offering a translucent coating in this section. The entire presentation immediately reminded me of a space shuttle design. The plastic used here feels cheap and of poor quality. Well, that’s the price you have to pay.

However, not everything is perfect and the casing creaks when you squeeze it, revealing the cheap materials. The casing is also quite scratched now and I’ve only been using the earbuds for about two weeks. Still, given the price, I don’t want to complain too much.

Even though the overall design is a bit reminiscent of Nothing’s transparent design scheme, I like boAt’s intelligent implementation. “Be inspired, but don’t copy” as they say.

Features that are (mostly) not just a gimmick

The earbuds market has evolved at an unprecedented pace over the years. If you had told me that TWS earbuds for Rs 2,500 or less would be available with ANC, adjustable EQand so on, I would probably have laughed at you a few years ago. But the boAt Nirvana Space comes with all of these features and also adds spatial audio.

Although the Spatial Audio is nothing incredible, like other earbuds, it is good to have it at this price. The touch controls are very responsive and switching between Ambient and ANC modes is easy.

Although the ANC is rated at 32dB on paper, it works better than competitor earbuds that offer 42dB or more. I compared the ANC with the recently launched CMF Buds and Realme Buds T310, and the boAt Nirvana Space stands out well. Nice to see the ANC in this price segment go beyond these gimmicky limits.

What I liked most, however, was the seamless Multipoint connection Function works. The change is usually almost instantaneous and is the best I have seen in this segment.

When my colleague Anshuman tested the CMF Buds (test report), he got a headache from the bass being too loud. It was the same for me. The more expensive Nothing Ear a (test report) also suffer from the same problem. Even the customizable EQ function in the boAt app could not reduce this to a tolerable level.

boAt Nirvana Adaptive EQ

One of the best things about Nirvana Space is that it has a very balanced sound signature ready for immediate useIn my experience, tweaking tends not to produce good results. The standard output is very soothing, with impressive highs, good lows, and somewhat decent mids. However, as with earbuds in this affordable price segment, don’t expect a solid soundstage.

The adjustable EQ is fine, but doesn’t make a huge difference. If you have a good pair of ears that aren’t destroyed by loud music, you’ll notice the subtle changes. The addition of Adaptive EQ is not yet available in this price segment. And they work well enough for the price and influence the sound by improving it a little.

A whole lot of juice as backup

Battery life is another area where the boAt Nirvana Space really impresses. The case is powered by a 600mAh battery, and each earbud has a 35mAh unit. In my experience, the earbuds can easily last on a single charge each approx. 4.5 to 5 hours.

With the suitcase it can take 4 or even 5 days without charging, which is incredible. My use case is to play CoD Mobile with friends for about 2 hours every night, take calls, and listen to music for about 3-4 hours. Very impressive if you ask me.

Plus, thanks to their fit, I could wear these earbuds for hours without them scratching my ears or having to constantly adjust them.

Reasonably and tolerably flawed

boAt Nirvana Space with companion app

Of course, these are not perfect, and the Companion app is what I have the most trouble with. While the app is aesthetically pleasing, it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of user experience. Every now and then I accidentally change the equalizer when scrolling through the sound settings, which is very annoying.

The the microphone quality is also not that goodalthough it does have a four-mic setup tuned by AI-ENx. You’ll get by with that, but clarity is where it falls short. On calls or while gaming, the other person complained at least once that I couldn’t be heard well enough. So, yes, you’re going to strain your vocal muscles quite a bit with that.

Considering the price tag of Rs 2,499, these issues don’t seem too annoying anymore. Moreover, the earbuds are rarely sold at this price and even on Amazon, the usual retail price is around Rs 2,200.

If you want a better app experience and slightly better audio, the CMF Buds are definitely the way to go. The Realme Buds T310 are decent, but are also supported by a more user-friendly companion app. But the boAt Nirvana Space is the more balanced all-rounder and therefore worth every penny.

If you are looking for cheap earphones under Rs 2500 in India, give these a try. If you don’t like them, you can always get your money back. If you already own them, let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
