SOUTH YARMOUTH – Willy Wonka used golden tickets to select guests for his chocolate factory tour. The folks at Rice Krispies Treats use a computerized booking system.

Beginning at noon on August 14 and during select hours through August 23, anyone can book online for a complimentary three-night stay in the Rice Krispies Re-Treat Suite at the newly renovated Red Jacket Beach Resort.

There is just one oceanfront suite that can accommodate up to six people, with everything from soap to slippers decorated in the brand’s signature blue and marshmallow white tones.

Be the first to book a free two-night stay at RiceKrispiesTreatsRetreat.com. Complimentary suites are only available on Wednesday, August 14th at 12:00 p.m. for stays August 20-22nd, August 16th for stays August 23-25th, August 19th for stays August 27-29th, and August 23rd for stays August 30-September 1st.

The competition is open to anyone in the Americas, but it is on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning whoever is fastest with the computer mouse gets the free suite, organizers said.

“Rice Krispies Treats are just one of those snacks that you associate with summer and are excited about what’s inside. We wanted to create that feeling in an immersive way,” said Bridget Norris, vice president of integrated media at Weber-Shandwick, a Boston marketing firm.

Norris appreciated that there are hundreds of Rice Krispies Treats in the suite and said guests can take home as many as they like. In the living room, there is a serving cart full of treats and candies that allow you to put your own twist on the six Rice Krispies Treat varieties made by Chicago-based company Kellanova. They also make the Rice Krispies cereal for Kellogg’s.

A free chance to extend the joy of summer

“Why are we doing this?” asked Kellanova representative Jenny Lindquist. “We want to extend the magic and joy of summer – that feeling of fun and sun and summer sleepovers.”

Parade Magazine writer Devon Sherer and her family – husband Will Sherer and their four-year-old daughter Chloe – of Sleepy Hollow, NY, test drove the Re-Treat Suite.

They spent the first night there, taking photos with the Polaroid instant camera, drawing with the 64-pack of Crayola crayons and listening to Meghan Trainor on a replica record player. There’s also a screen in the living room that you can project films onto.

“She’s obsessed with the slide,” Devon Sherer said of her daughter. “She said she would go down 100 times. So far she’s done it five times.”

Chloe beat numbers six and seven during our visit and landed in a pool of blue and white balls. You do have to be quite small to use the slide attached to the bunk beds, but you don’t have to be a parent-child family to win the free weekend.

Open to all groups of six or more

“A family could be a group of six women on a girls’ trip,” Norris said.

The Rice Krispies Re-Treat Suite features one bedroom, living room, two bathrooms, and a balcony with water views outside each room. One balcony features a Rice Krispies Treat-themed cornhole game.

In addition to the beach, the complimentary stay includes several family activities at Red Jacket Beach Resort – pirate and magic shows, temporary tattoos and mermaid hair braiding. Meals are not included.

Red Jacket hosts Rice Krispies Re-Treat in renovated space

“Red Jacket Resorts has been in the business of helping families create memories on Cape Cod for over 50 years, so this opportunity seemed like the perfect opportunity to surprise and delight guests. The timing is especially opportune as Red Jacket Beach Resort just completed a major renovation that includes guest rooms, public areas and more,” Michael McManus, assistant general manager of Red Jacket Beach Resort, wrote in an email in response to a Cape Cod Times inquiry.

Red Jacket and two of its five other Mid-Cape properties – Riviera Beach Resort and Blue Water Resort – announced a joint $40 million renovation that includes 397 redesigned rooms, family suites and vacation homes, as well as new dining spaces and upgraded pools.

Norris said the Rice Krispies Treats team will take the suite apart and repaint it at the end of the summer to make it look “like we were never here.”

Like any hotel, guests must leave behind robes and towels. But the hundreds of cereal and marshmallow treats in the dresser are all yours.
