Madonna’s huge hit returns to the charts for the first time in 35 years

Madonna has had a long and successful career all over the world, producing singles that have stood the test of time and remain popular to this day, which is no easy feat in the pop genre. Some of her biggest hits continue to enjoy huge popularity in some of music’s biggest markets, and one of them is making an incredible comeback this week.

“Like a Prayer” reappears in the UK song charts this week, rocketing back to number 95 on the list of the most listened to songs in the country. The list only has 100 places, so Madonna’s hit almost didn’t make it onto the list at all.

The single has become increasingly popular since its release in the film Deadpool and Wolverine. The film makes playful use of “Like a Prayer,” and audiences responded by repeating the tune.

Deadpool and Wolverine has proved to be a huge box office hit around the world. The film recently crossed the $1 billion mark after just a few weeks in theaters. Its huge popularity has led to a surge in streams and sales of Madonna’s hit, both of which affect where a track ends up in the UK song charts – or whether it appears at all.

“Like a Prayer” hasn’t been on the UK song chart for decades. The last time it appeared on the 100-place list of the country’s most popular songs was in June 1989. That season, the song slipped to number 80 and then disappeared… seemingly forever – until now.

Madonna had an early and huge chart hit in 1989 with “Like a Prayer.” The single entered the UK Singles Chart at number 2, making it an instant success for her. It rose to number 1 the following frame, where it stayed for three consecutive times.

“Like a Prayer” is one of Madonna’s 13 lucky No. 1 hits in the UK. She has also landed in the top 10 an incredible 64 times throughout her career.
