The worst hairstyles for reshoots in films

Tell me if this sounds familiar. You watch a movie. You immerse yourself in the story. You lose yourself in your fictional reality.

And then, all of a sudden: Something just feels right… out of. But you can’t put your finger on it. Maybe you even pause the movie and stare on the screen to find out.

If this vague feeling of out of-When I have problems like this while watching a movie, nine times out of ten it is for the same reason: Re-shoot hair. That’s the extremely technical term for when a Hollywood star films an entire movie with a distinctive (and usually natural) haircut and then works on another project – after which they change their hairstyle. Maybe they had long hair in the first movie and their new role requires a buzz cut; maybe they had a bob and now they have waves.

And therein lies the problem. When the original project has to be reshot, the Hollywood star no longer looks the same as he did on the first production – and worse, ongoing work on the second project means he can’t cut his hair to look the way it originally did. Whenever that happens, there’s a risk that the hair will show up from scene to scene, or sometimes even from shot to shot, during reshoots. When that happens, it’s beyond disturbing.

Below I’ve compiled a dozen of the worst examples I know of, with side-by-side comparison shots so you can see both their original appearance and their newly flipped hair (or beard, or, in one very notorious case, their newly flipped CGI upper lip). If you were able to watch these movies without noticing this beforehand, I’m jealous. But be warned: once you’ve seen something like this, you’ll never be able to go unseen.
