Free flu shots are offered to visitors to the Kentucky State Fair

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Visitors to the Kentucky State Fair can receive a free flu shot if they wish.

The Kentucky Association of Health Plans (KAHP), the industry association for private insurers and Medicaid managed care organizations in the state, has announced a pop-up flu shot clinic and giveaway.

While supplies last, KAHP staff will be giving away wristbands for free unlimited rides to visitors at the Healthy Horizons Pavilion in South Wing B. Flu shots are administered daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed August 19).

A KAHP press release states that Medicaid members may be eligible for an incentive from their health insurance provider in addition to the gift bonus.

“We see this as a way to avoid unnecessary strain on the healthcare system,” said Tom Stephens, president and CEO of KAHP. “Getting the flu shot lowers your risk of getting the flu. It can also lower your risk of severe illness, hospitalization, or even death as a result of the flu. These incentives have been extremely popular the past few years when we have offered them at the fair,” Stephens continued.
