Bruins CEO gives update on current status of goalie contract

The Bruins had a strong free agency with the signings of Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov, but one big question mark still hangs over them: the status of goaltender Jeremy Swayman.

Neither Boston nor Swayman have opted for arbitration this summer, and both sides have said multiple times that they are confident a long-term deal will come together. Now, nearly mid-August, nothing has been announced, even though training camp is quickly approaching.

Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs gave a brief update on the situation of the team and the goalie.

“I try not to comment on contract negotiations with players. We’re still negotiating with Sway,” Jacobs said during his appearance on WEEI’s “Gresh & Fauria” during the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund radio telethon. “I hope he’s ready to play in training camp. We’ve got a few things to work out. I’m sure we’ll get it done.”

Jacobs added that the Bruins’ “unfinished business” this offseason was actually signing Swayman to a long-term contract.

The Bruins traded Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators in June and signed Joonas Korpisalo. The goalie did not have a good season in Ottawa and was statistically one of the worst goalies in the NHL. Boston also has Brandon Bussi in Providence, who is about to make his NHL debut.

Swayman is coming off a strong 2023-24 season, playing in all but one playoff game for Boston over two rounds. He finished the regular season with a record of 25-10-8 with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.

It’s a quiet time in the offseason, but keeping Swayman long-term was always a priority for the Bruins. Now it’s basically just a matter of waiting for that to happen.
