Tim Burton reveals how “Wednesday” served as inspiration for “Beetlejuice 2”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Director Tim Burton explained why he decided to revive the iconic Michael Keaton-starring horror-comedy franchise after the first installment debuted over three decades ago. This is Burton’s first directorial project in a long time after helming Disney’s live-action film. Dumbo New edition 2019.




In an interview with Total Film, Burton confirmed that signing a contract with Netflix Wednesday series rekindled his passion for filmmaking. Before he directed four episodes of The The Addams Family Spinoff, he admitted that he had originally thought he was already finished with filmmaking.”Wednesday reminded me again why I like doing things. It was like making a movie on a TV schedule. It was fast. It was invigorating,” Burton said. “We didn’t want to make a sequel.” That was before anyone talked about franchises. The first time I heard this word was on Batman Returns. I remember hearing it for the first time and feeling a chill run down my spine.”

In the middle of filming the first season of Wednesday In Romania, Burton had the opportunity to talk about Winona Ryder’s Beetlejuice character Lydia Deetz while reflecting on how much his life had changed. “There was something emotional that made me want to do it,” he said. “There was something about (that) character and what happens to people 35 years later. That was the emotional hook for me. What happens to people when you get older? You go through different things. You have kids. It changes you. Now I understand those things a little bit better. I’ve been through it myself.”



What to expect from Beetlejuice 2

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was directed by Burton, based on a screenplay by Wednesday Creator Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The film is led by returning cast members Keaton as Betelgeuse, Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, with Emmy nominee Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter Astrid. Currently, Burton and Ortega are in Ireland producing the second season of “Wednesday,” which is expected to be released in 2025. The sequel’s additional cast includes Monica Bellucci as Betelgeuse’s ex-wife, Willem Dafoe as afterlife detective Wolf Jackson, Justin Theroux as Lydia’s husband Rory, Burn Gorman as the vicar, Danny DeVito and Arthur Conti.
