Giants named landing spot for experienced cornerback in 2025 free agency

The New York Giants are currently concentrating on preseason training and will reduce their roster to 53 players in the next few weeks.

Still, it’s never a bad idea to take a look at some potentially available players during the upcoming free agency period.

With questions looming around the cornerback position, the Giants could well find themselves in a situation where they have to revisit that area of the roster.

When it comes to potentially available options for free agency in 2025, veteran DJ Reed has been named as the Giants’ top pick, according to Matt Holder of Bleacher Report.

“New York is fairly young at the cornerback position, and 23-year-old second-year pro Deonte Banks is expected to be the best player at the position this season,” Holder wrote. “Reed is coming off an impressive season, posting an 85.1 passer rating when targeted and a 79.5 coverage rating, according to Pro Football Focus.”

The 27-year-old may be 5’9″ tall and weigh 185 pounds, but he spent almost every snap on the outside during the 2023 season with the New York Jets.

He was pretty solid overall in both man and zone coverage last season. According to Pro Football Focus, Reed posted a 91.4 passer rating in zone coverage and a 75.8 passer rating in man coverage.

It’s quite possible that the Giants will be looking primarily at the cornerback position next season, so Reed could be a short-term option for New York.
