Midsummer Beachy Brunette is the flirty new hair color you need

We’re slowly approaching fall while still clinging to summer, and we think it makes sense for our hair color to reflect this inner conflict. That’s where summery beach brown comes in. August and early September are the perfect time to dye your hair some lighter colors before fall, or to blend bolder colors back into already lightened summer hair. This look is “the perfect, natural yet vibrant transition from summer to fall. This color blend captures the essence of that late summer feeling, but ensures your hair maintains a sun-kissed look despite the change of season,” says Richy Kandasamy, Vice President of Color Development at R+COLOR.

The summery beach brown looks like the sun naturally kissed your brown hair while you were frolicking in the Mediterranean and going about your business. In reality, you sat in the salon chair for four to five hours to create this super-natural look. Or maybe you did both!” says celebrity colorist Adara Forletta.

“This is the perfect shade for summer or if you want to bring your hair back to brunette and have a more subtle look. But subtle doesn’t have to mean boring,” says Forletta. “It still has shine without having too much contrast.” Maxine Salon colorist Lauren Maldice describes it as “a soft brunette shade with cascading honey-colored bands running down.”

How to achieve the look

Forletta notes that for this look, she wouldn’t recommend going more than two tones lighter than your natural hair color. “It’s all about enhancing what you already have,” she says. To achieve this look, Kandasamy suggests asking your colorist to “add golden or copper glosses to brown hair to create a sunlit, brighter effect that stays rich and warm.” Think honey balayage, says Maldice.
