Union Cabs offered free rides to polling stations throughout Dane County

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – For some people, going to the polls in person is the only thing keeping them from voting. With this Tuesday’s primary election, the Dane County League of Women Voters is partnering with Union Cabs to combat that problem.

The taxi service offered free rides throughout the day for voters who needed to get to the polling station.

Sue Jennik, president of the League of Women Voters, estimated they helped dozens of people get to their polling places. She is grateful for the partnership with Union Cab that makes this service possible.

“Union Cab donates the taxi service and they’ve been doing that for a long time, so kudos to them for taking that on,” Jennik said. “And we’re excited that they can do that for people who don’t have access to transportation for whatever reason, or for the disabled, especially people who may have difficulty getting around.”

Taxis were full throughout the day as people made reservations ahead of Tuesday’s election. Voters could also call 866-OUR-VOTE if they needed help finding a ride.

Jennik said they are already making plans and taking reservations for taxi rides on Election Day in November. More information on rides to polling places can be found here.
