Lake Mary Little Leaguers treated like rock stars during World Series parade

LAKE MARY, Florida. – Riding on a semi-trailer converted into a float, Lake Mary Little Leaguers joined 19 other teams from around the world for a one-mile march through downtown Williamsport.

Throughout Tuesday’s Grand Slam parade, which was expected to draw up to 40,000 people, the 12 boys and their three coaches waved to the crowd from the float, signed autographs and got a taste of what it’s like to be a rock star.

“It’s just incredible,” said Michelle Anderson. “Another part of a dream come true.”

Anderson’s son, Chase, is a midfielder on the team and her husband, Jonathan, is the head coach. She said being at the Little League World Series together was a surreal experience.

“It’s been a long road to get here and it’s not easy at all,” she added. “All the stars aligned and all her hard work has paid off. It’s incredible.”

News 6 caught up with the team at training earlier in the day and they looked fit, focused and ready for the bright lights of Lamade Stadium.

Teraj Alexander, a first baseman and pitcher on the team, said everyone is excited to face Souix Falls, South Dokota on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

“I would say we’re pretty excited,” said the 12-year-old. “We’ll be playing in front of a big crowd and it’s going to be a really fun and cool experience.”

Before the first pitch is thrown on Wednesday, all 20 teams participating in the Little League World Series will take part in the opening ceremony at 11 a.m.
