West Hollywood and other streets in Hollywood will be car-free on August 18 for CicLAvia

Thousands are expected to walk, cycle or use wheelchairs throughout Hollywood throughout the day

CicLAvia will transform Hollywood into a car-free oasis on Sunday, August 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will stretch 6.6 miles and connect East Hollywood, Hollywood, and West Hollywood. Participants are invited to explore these neighborhoods on foot, bike, or any other human-powered mode of transportation.

The route will take in iconic streets such as Hollywood Boulevard, Highland Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. CicLAvia’s 54th edition will offer Los Angeles residents and visitors a chance to rediscover these areas without the usual traffic noise. The streets will become temporary parks filled with activities, street games, local shops and arts and culture activities for all ages.

Five activity centers along the route – West Hollywood Hub, Plummer Park Hub, Walk of Fame Hub, Hollywood Boulevard Hub and East Hollywood Hub – offer restrooms, water stations, bike repair services and family-friendly entertainment. Free rickshaw rides are also available between the centers.

Romel Pascual, Managing Director of CicLAvia, highlighted the unique experience that this event offers: “On CicLAvia Sundays, locals and tourists can experience well-known and emblematic areas in a new light – free of cars and traffic, giving everyone the freedom to explore the area at their own pace.”

CicLAvia, inspired by Bogotá’s weekly Ciclovía, has been car-freeing Los Angeles streets since 2010. The initiative promotes greener living, healthier lifestyles, and stronger community bonds. Over the years, CicLAvia has welcomed more than 2 million participants on 311 miles of city streets.

Participants are encouraged to use body-powered transportation such as walking, biking or skating. Electric scooters, skateboards and other motorized vehicles are not permitted, with the exception of certain types of e-bikes and motorized wheelchairs.

The event is one of several planned for 2024. Other dates include CicLAmini in Lincoln Heights on September 15, CicLAvia – Heart of LA on October 13, and CicLAvia – The Valley on December 8.

CicLAvia is free and open to all. For more information on safety, participation guidelines, and upcoming events, visit the CicLAvia Meet the Hollywoods 2024 website.
