Heatwaves are becoming more and more common around the world. But how do we measure heatwaves? We explain.

As temperatures in Texas seem to never stop rising, the Trinity Center is opening its doors to provide a cool place for homeless people to rest and recover. From now until the end of September, up to 60 people at a time can find refuge from the heat each day.
Where is the cooling center?
The cooling center is located downtown at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 304 E. Seventh St. The Trinity Center’s Clement Weather Cooling Center pilot project was recently launched in partnership with the City of Austin and the city’s Homeless Strategies Office.
When is the cooling center open?
Until September 30, 60 people will be admitted each day from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
How can I help?
The Trinity Center is asking for additional volunteers to help distribute food and clothing, prepare meals, provide showers, and work at the front desk. For those who are unable to donate their time, the center is accepting donations of warm weather clothing, supplies, food, and water.

Where else can I cool off?
