Beth Cundiff rediscovered her love of art through painting classes at the Turner Center for the Arts.

Two beginner-friendly painting classes – Paints & Pastries and Paint & Sip – are held each month in the Art Annex on the Turner Center campus. Regular art instructors include Nancy Crombie, Annette Crosby, and Hunter Pope. The next Paints & Pastries will be on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. Paint & Sip will continue in September 2024.

Cundiff’s artistic journey began in eighth grade when a local artist in her small hometown began offering after-school classes. Cundiff quickly fell in love with art and took every class she could get throughout high school. During her college education and the years of raising a family, art took a back seat – until she moved to Valdosta.

After moving, Cundiff began looking for painting classes and discovered the Turner Center’s monthly, beginner-friendly painting classes online. After the first class, she felt so encouraged and motivated that she became a regular student and began painting with acrylics in her spare time. Today, she paints almost daily at home, preferring landscapes and also practicing still life. Cundiff was one of over 200 artists recently featured in the Turner Center’s 37th edition.th Annual “Spring into Art” exhibition.

She highly recommends taking painting classes at the Turner Center, saying, “Whether you’re a beginner, starting painting again, or looking to improve your skills, these classes provide a fun and supportive experience in a safe environment. Any discomfort about your skill level (or lack thereof) will be replaced with encouragement and confidence building.” Cundiff encourages others to pursue their artistic interests, and she recommends pursuing your art every day or as often as possible. She says, “Make it a part of your routine. Don’t be discouraged by the days you’re not making progress. Just show up. It’s the fastest way to find your voice.”
