LL Cool J calls Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” cover the “funniest shit”

Months later, people are still finding things to praise about the heavy rap feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. LL Cool J recently revealed how much humor he found in the cover of “Not Like Us.”

He sat down with Ray Daniels Media to praise the new generation of artists, and wanted to mention K. Dot in particular. “I’m just shocked that he put all those signs on homie’s house,” he said of the red dots on the Toronto superstar’s home indicating that sex offenders reside there. “That shit is crazy. It has nothing to do with anything, but it’s the funniest shit in the world. It’s crazy. You got to respect that kind of mindset.”

He extended his praise to today’s era in general and how they market music and themselves compared to previous generations. “This generation is more multi-faceted. The thinking is more multi-faceted,” he claimed. “The thinking used to be like that — back then it was, ‘Okay, you make the song.’ That was it. Then it transitioned to, ‘You make the song and you make the video.’ Now it transitions to, ‘You make the song, you make the video, you have a brand, you make a book, you have the movie, you have the music. You monetize it. You have a platform.’ The multi-facetedness of the thought process is completely different.”

Kendrick Lamar’s performance throughout the battle was praised by many. From releasing “Euphoria” at 8:24 a.m. Pacific Time to doubling down with “6:16 In LA” before Drake could even react. His most tactful move, of course, was releasing “Meet The Grahams” less than an hour after Drizzy dropped “Family Matters” and then basically claiming the win with “Not Like Us,” which came out on a Saturday night.

From there, K. Dot let the song, DJs, and TikTok creators do the work for him. His next step was his Pop Out concert on Juneteenth in Los Angeles, which brought together a whole host of artists, producers, and athletes from the West Coast. The final nail in the coffin was the official music video for “Not Like Us,” which was released on July 4th.

It wasn’t the first time LL Cool J has spoken out about the feud. Last month, he claimed that Drake made a “bad decision” in getting involved with the Compton artist. “Kendrick won the fight. I mean, come on. That’s obvious. That’s a no-brainer,” he told Hot 97’s TT Torrez. “And listen, I like Drake. I love his music, he’s a cool dude. We don’t know each other, but I like his music. I’m happy for him and everything. But, you know, Kendrick… that may have been a bad decision.”
