7 things we learned from the trailer for Marvel’s Thunderbolts*

After watching a Comic-Con exclusive Thunderbolts* Trailer, fans have learned a lot about what will happen in the new MCU team film.

As a kind of continuation of 2021 Black widow, Thunderbolts* will bring back several characters from this solo film, as well as several villains and antiheroes from across the MCU.

The team for this film will be very different from its Marvel Comics counterpart, drawing on several installments in the Infinity Saga and Multiverse Saga to bring this darker team of superheroes to life.

7 things fans learned from the Thunderbolts* trailer

Marvel Studios presented a trailer for 2025 Thunderbolts* during his presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con in July.

Below are the key revelations and news fans learned from this footage:

Yelena Belova is “lost” after Hawkeye

After her performances in Black widow And Hawkeyethe future path for Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova seems unclear in Thunderbolts*.

When she reunites with David Harbour’s Red Guardian, she says to him: “There’s something wrong with me” when describing “an emptiness” in her. She explained how she felt “just drift” Without a goal, she hoped that throwing herself into work would solve her problems.

The end of Hawkeye changed Yelena’s world after Clint Barton told Yelena the truth about how Natasha Romanoff died in Avengers: EndgameCombining this with her obvious distrust of Julia Louis-Dreyfuss’ Val since Black widow‘s post-credits scene, and this time she’s got a lot of trouble to deal with.

Now that Yelena is the lead in this film, she has plenty of opportunity to realize her full potential and destiny.

The Winter Soldier becomes a congressman

Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier

As US Agent star Wyatt Russell teased with ComicBook, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes will take on a new and unexpected role in Thunderbolts* — Member of Congress of the United States.

In the trailer, Bucky is only seen for a few moments, although in one scene he enters a session of Congress fully decked out in a suit and American flag pin. He also sports a new goatee and trimmed hair as he adjusts to his new surroundings.

While Bucky will be seen in action as a superhero again in later shots (including pulling his metal arm out of a dishwasher), his new role in Congress will give him room to develop further as a character.

He will also be the de facto leader of this new team, which presents another wild challenge for him as he hopes to keep a team filled with darker characters in check.

US agent is father

Return to the MCU for the first time since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, who once again takes on the role of US agent. However, the former Captain America is placed in a different position in this film, at least for part of the story.

Early footage shows Walker sitting in a chair and scrolling through the news on his phone, seemingly looking for motivation or dirt in the articles written about him online. It also appears that a young daughter is standing next to him in a crib, adding depth to the character.

This fits with his MCU debut after fans saw him married, although there was no indication at the time that they were already starting a family since he wasn’t the focus of that Disney+ show.

It is still unknown whether his status as a father will influence him in this film, although fans have already seen him with his wife several times in his first appearance on Disney+.

Lewis Pullman’s mysterious character is “Bob”

Only visible for a moment in this trailer Top Shooter: Maverickis Lewis Pullman, who plays a mysterious character named Bob.

When Yelena, Ghost, and the U.S. Agent meet at an unknown location, they find Bob in a hospital gown, who wonders why everyone was sent there. Seemingly dazed, he simply holds up his hands while the four are trapped in the room together.

Later in the trailer, he is seen with bullet holes in his scrubs before gunmen shoot at him, although the bullets appear to bounce off his body without leaving a scratch.

This almost confirms that “Bob” is short for Robert Reynolds, who later develops into Sentry – one of the most powerful characters in Marvel history.

Some theories say that he could be the ultimate threat to the Thunderbolts in this film and that it would not be easy for them to defeat him.

The original mission of Thunderbolts is top secret

Similar to DC’s Suicide Squad, to which the Thunderbolts are often compared, the Marvel team’s mission seems to be to obtain all the necessary information at the beginning of the film.

The observers are not aware of what they are getting into when they confront each other because they are initially unaware of their hostility towards each other.

Even when they finally meet Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, she doesn’t reveal why they’re there together. Unsurprisingly, Marvel is hoping to keep these deeper plot points under wraps until the film is close to release.

New costumes for Ghost, Taskmaster and more

As with most Marvel films, Thunderbolts*The characters are getting a wardrobe upgrade when they return to the MCU. In addition to Red Guardian’s new clothes seen at Comic-Con (according to Marvel), both Ghost and Taskmaster were seen in exciting new outfits.

Instead of Ghost’s grey armor and mask with red eyes from Ant-Man and the WaspHannah John-Kamen’s Ava comes in an almost all-black outfit and a mask with a white panel covering her entire face, as well as flowing pieces of fabric falling from her waist down her legs.

Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster also gets a new outfit in this film, although her main suit is the same as in Black widowHer biggest change is also manifested in a white mask, this time with black eye holes, over which she wears a black hood.

These are certainly not the only costume changes in Thunderbolts*these will keep fans talking until new images are revealed.

Avengers Tower Buyer Revealed?

One of the biggest questions since the Infinity Saga is who bought the Avengers Tower when Tony Stark sold it previously Spider-Man: Homecoming. Well, the final shot of the Thunderbolts* The trailer may have revealed the answer – Val.

The main cast gathers to meet Val in a room with a wall of windows that looks suspiciously like the place the Avengers called home for a few years in Phase 2 and Phase 3. Given her likely ambition to use this team for some nefarious purposes, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she was in command of this building now.

Apparently he was the director of the CIA in Black Panther: Wakanda ForeverVal would certainly have the means to purchase this building if she had wanted to. It would also be a perfect high-tech base for her to accomplish what she wants, which could prove to be a valuable resource like Adamantium.

After numerous interviews over the years hinted at who is now in control of this building, this trailer could finally solve the dilemma for fans.

Thunderbolts* is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
