HGTV star Karen E. Laine is preparing for her return to the network in the “Good Bones” spin-off miniseries “Good Bones: New Beginnings,” and fans have noticed a fresh start to her hairstyle in recent Instagram posts.
Laine first debuted a new pixie cut look in a July 24 Instagram video post. Although she didn’t try to draw too much attention to the change, instead showing her fans a new tip for growing monstera plants in the video, she mentioned it in her caption. “Who uses tomato cages to support their monsteras and why didn’t you tell me what a great idea that is? And yes, I cut my hair. But no, I didn’t notice my bra strap peeking out. At least I’m not chewing gum this time.”
After a user commented on her post to get her opinion, she wrote: “Tomato schomato!!! This haircut!!! How do you like it? It looks amazing 😍”, Laine replied: “I’m not convinced I like it this short.”

Fans are amazed by Karen E. Laine’s short hair look
Despite Laine’s mixed feelings, her fans were very supportive of her hair transformation and left their thoughts in the comments on her July 24 post.
“OMG. I’ve never seen you with your short hair before! You look absolutely stunning and fun and sassy,” one user commented.
“Your hair looks amazing short 😍. But I understand that you feel it is too short. It will grow and maybe shoulder length will suit you better ❤️. It will grow and then you will know 😊”, wrote another fan.
“Looking amazing! At first glance I thought you were Helen Hunt!! I cut it short so the gray would show gracefully 🩶,” a third user added. Since “Good Bones” debuted in 2015, fans have watched Laine transition from her natural red hair to gray hair, though she wore her hair longer throughout the show. Her hair was also longer in the first photos of the “New Beginnings” spin-off, which HGTV shared on July 17.
“I love the haircut! This took years! I cut my hair too and I love it. I used to get so hot on the back of my neck and I told my hairdresser to take it off my neck 😂 She styled it beautifully and I love it!” another fan added.
When do the episodes of “Good Bones: New Beginnings” by Karen E. Laine air?
In “Good Bones: New Beginnings,” Laine and her daughter Mina Starsiak Hawk pursue solo projects after the end of “Good Bones” and a lingering rift in their relationship.
The miniseries is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, August 14 at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. The 90-minute special, “Mina Takes the Lake,” will showcase Starsiak Hawk’s renovation of her new family home on the lake. Laine likely won’t appear in this episode, but fans can see her in two more hour-long episodes on August 21 and 28 at 9 p.m. when she travels to Wilmington, North Carolina and risks her retirement “nest egg” to remodel a beach bungalow.
