Stranger Things completely forgot about this character

Highlights

  • The absence of Lonnie Byers in later seasons of Stranger Things is a glaring plot hole that fans hope will be addressed in Season 5.
  • Lonnie was originally intended to play the role of the Savior, but the role was given to Steve Harrington instead, leaving his character undefined.
  • The possibility of Lonnie’s return in season 5 could play a significant role in the dynamics of the Byers family and the overall plot.

Season 1 of Stranger Things introduced Will and Jonathan’s biological father, Lonnie Byers, but aside from a brief confrontation with Joyce about the disappearance of her youngest son, Lonnie is never seen or mentioned again. Stranger Things seems to have completely forgotten Lonniebut since the story is set to conclude in Season 5, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him again before the end of the series.

Lonnie and Joyce married sometime before Jonathan’s birth in 1966. Their second son, Will, was born in 1971. In Season 1, it was implied that that Lonnie was an alcoholic and drug addict, as well as an abusive father and husband. Joyce divorced him a few years later, and Lonnie moved from Hawkins to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he began a relationship with a woman named Cynthia and had little interest in visiting his sons. When Will disappeared, Joyce contacted Lonnie to inform him of his son’s apparent kidnapping..

Stranger Things Season 5 must not be wasted a single minute

Stranger Things Season 5 is going to be a long one, which means every moment of the final season needs to be captivating and exciting.

In the second episode, “The Maple Street Spinner,” Jonathan tracks down Lonnie and enters his house unannounced. Lonnie mistakes Jonathan for an intruder, but later introduces him to Cynthia and assures him that he has no idea where Will is. In the fifth episode, “The Flea and the Acrobat,” Hawkins Lab covers up Will’s disappearance by making it look like Will fell into the quarry and drowned. Lonnie attends the funeral to confront Joyce, who discovers Lonnie’s true intentions to sue the quarry and profit from Will’s “death.” Lonnie flees the funeral after calling Joyce “a wreck,” and is not heard from again for three more seasons.

Lonnie Byers could return to Stranger Things in season 5

Lonnie Byers on Stranger Things

Since Lonnie was estranged from the family in “The Flea and the Acrobat”, it is unknown whether Lonnie knows about Will’s survival or not. In the original drafts for Season 1, Lonnie was supposed to have a redemption arc and unite in the Byers’ house to fight Demogorgon. When the Duffer brothers decided against it, the redemption arc was instead given to Steve Harrington, who arrived to help Nancy and Jonathan. Most of the time, Lonnie was in the Stranger Things action. His character seems to have been included solely as a motivator for Joyce, a character who is a stark contrast to Lonnie in terms of her generous personality and dedication to her children.

Although there is no official confirmation of Lonnie’s appearance in season 5The official Wikipedia page of actor Ross Patridge lists his involvement in Stranger Things as “Seasons 1 and 5” – a revelation that could have some significance as the final season approaches. Of course, Wikipedia is not a completely reliable source of information, so this is all still just speculation. Until Netflix or Stranger Things When we make an announcement, it’s safe to assume Lonnie won’t appear out of nowhere. Will and Jonathan also have a somewhat rocky relationship, but hopefully Season 5 will address the Byers dynamic and bring their story to a close.

A lot has happened with Joyce, Will and Jonathan since Season 1. Joyce has moved on from her boyfriend Bob, who lost his life to a demo dog, and has moved on to Hopper, who she appears to be officially dating at the end of Season 4. As for Will, he has been a vessel for the Mind Flayer for a few seasons and even has an unrequited crush on Mike, while Jonathan is in a full-time relationship with Nancy Wheeler. While Joyce and Lonnie are unlikely to reconcile on the picture with Hopper, it would be nice to see Lonnie’s redemption arc in season 1 play out as planned.

Will and Jonathan’s father could finally get his redemption story

Stranger Things - Joyce Lonnie Byers

In season 5 Lonnie could return to Hawkins after hearing the news of Vecna’s invasion. There he would reunite with the Byers clan to save Hawkins. Although Joyce and Hopper are now a couple, nothing stops Lonnie from becoming the attentive and compassionate father he was always meant to be. It would be refreshing to see Lonnie and Hopper interact and express their mutual admiration for Joyce while also accepting that Lonnie missed his chance with her. Lonnie could also reconcile with Will and Jonathanapologized for his years of absence and promised to be there for her in the future.

If the cast comments and fan theories are to be believed, Season 5 will be full of surprises. Stranger Things has earned a reputation for surprising viewers with the unexpected, especially since some of its most shocking moments include the deaths of fan-favorite characters. Although Lonnie is not a very likeable person, his return would still have some impact on the Byers family.. The likelihood that Lonnie will play a significant role in Season 5 is very low, but if Karen Wheeler gets a Season 4 poster dedicated to him, viewers should stay alert and not underestimate the seemingly insignificant supporting characters in the future. There are no rules in the world of Stranger Things and even the most unthinkable scenarios can occur.
