Community is invited to discuss the new homeless assistance center with leaders

LENEXA, Kansas (KCTV) – The Johnson County community was invited to two meetings to learn more about a new homeless assistance center planned for Lenexa.

Officials in Johnson County, Kansas, have invited the public to learn more about a planned homeless assistance center between I-35 and 95th Street in Lenexa during two public meetings.

County officials noted that the two community meetings will begin with a presentation, followed by a question-and-answer discussion in an open house format. The content will be the same at both meetings.

In December, the Johnson Co. board purchased several buildings in the area between I-35 and 95th St. for $6 million, plus a $500,000 due diligence fee. In May, it was announced that Kansas City’s reStart Inc. would own and operate a homeless assistance center to be built in the new space.

The plan calls for dividing the building into approximately 45-50 spaces for transitional housing and 40 spaces for a more permanent housing program. These programs would provide access to on-site and off-site resources. The goal is for the county to have virtually no homelessness by 2029.

The first meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 21, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Sunset Drive Office Building, 11811 S. Sunset Dr., in Olathe. The second meeting is scheduled to take place at the same time on Thursday, August 22, at the Monticello Community Library in the Community Meeting Room at 22435 W. 66th St. in Shawnee.
