The rudest thing that conceited coffee idiots do to baristas in Idaho

Coffee is one of the first things many people think of when they open their eyes in the morning. For those who visit a coffee shop on their way to work or simply to start their day, there are things those who indulge in the daily pleasure do that drive the baristas absolutely crazy.

I’m a huge coffee fan. I drink between two and three cups most mornings. About three years ago I switched from regular coffee to decaf because I no longer notice any difference in the taste and I don’t need the increase in blood pressure.

I have the utmost respect for these workers who have to learn how to make 1,700 different cups of coffee. And for some people, coffee is a beverage that has social status more than anything else.

Coffee has definitely changed since I was in high school. Kids didn’t drink coffee in the ’90s, and people didn’t stand in drive-thru lines 24/7. Sometimes I have to grin when I see a line outside a coffee shop at 2 p.m. on a weekday, but hey, to each his own.

I sometimes chide my wife for needing designer coffee. I think people have become ridiculous about their coffee and some are just plain rude. Your morning (or afternoon or evening) coffee is not an emergency, so don’t treat others like one.

My daughter has been working as a barista for about five years and I asked her what the most annoying thing about her customers was. Her answer was the same one I found in a Huffington Post article.

Keep cables up” she said. It must be mind-numbing to see people acting like they’ve never been to a cafe they visit 600 times a year. 99 percent of the time they’re holding up lines because they can’t stay away from their phone for more than seven seconds.

I have the utmost respect for these workers who have to learn how to make 1,700 different cups of coffee. And for some people, let’s be honest, coffee is more of a beverage that confers social status than anything else.
