Michael Rubin says he refused to play Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” at his party because of Drake

Fanatics owner Michael Rubin hosted his annual White Party in the Hamptons on July 4th and a long list of celebrities were in attendance. One of them was Drake, who is fresh off a bitter fight with Kendrick Lamar.

As most probably know, Lamar won the battle with his diss song “Not Like Us.” The concept of the single revolves around his claim that Drake is a pedophile, even though that has not been proven. Despite this, the song can be heard everywhere, whether on the radio, in cars, or on social media. But one place it wasn’t played was Rubin’s party.

The billionaire businessman spoke about his refusal to play the song in a recent interview on The Breakfast Club and said it was his decision alone. However, he revealed that the song had been played at a pre-party the night before and immediately asked someone to turn it off.

“It’s true,” Rubin said at 13:35 of the interview. “Drake has been my friend for a long time. I’m not going to invite him and then, you know… Look, he’s obviously going through a little bit of a crisis right now. I’m not going to let him come there and (make it worse for him). I didn’t think it was appropriate, so I just sent a message saying, ‘Hey, let’s not play the music of someone who’s in a feud with someone there.'”

“He’s obviously having to fight a bit at the moment.”

At this point, it’s too early to say how much “Not Like Us” and Drake’s perceived loss to Lamar will affect his career. But if you pay attention to Lamar’s fans, you might think the Canadian rapper will never recover based on their comments on social media. But actually, Drake should be more than fine, as he still has countless fans, something 50 Cent recently spoke about.

“I don’t see any loss for Drake,” 50 told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview. “The people who have been buying Drake material will be buying Drake material when his next song comes out.”
