The Ephraim McDowell Sleep Disorders Center in Danville has been accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for 15 consecutive years, demonstrating its commitment to providing high-quality care for people with sleep problems.

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates the Ephraim McDowell Sleep Disorders Center for meeting the rigorous standards required to maintain accreditation for sleep services,” said AASM President Dr. Eric J. Olson. “AASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep care and provides patients with confidence and security when seeking help for a sleep disorder.”

AASM-accredited sleep centers provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for people with sleep and wakefulness problems. Sleep disorders include obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy.

To obtain and maintain accreditation for a period of five years, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care established by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as staffing, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data collection, patient care, and quality assurance. In addition, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly articulated and include plans to positively impact the quality of health care in the community it serves.

The AASM first accredited a sleep center in 1977. Today, there are more than 2,300 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country.

The Ephraim McDowell Sleep Disorders Center is directed by Dr. Klark B. Turpen and is located at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. For more information about the Ephraim McDowell Sleep Disorders Center, call (859) 239-5920.

The AASM is a medical society for physicians, researchers, and other health professionals in the field of sleep medicine. As the national accreditation body for sleep centers, the AASM promotes sleep care and improves sleep health to improve lives.
