Get a sneak peek at Spotlight PA’s plans for a new office in Berks County

Earlier this year, Spotlight PA announced the results of a year-long study of news and information needs in Berks County, Pennsylvania, and plans to open a new reporting office there. Now we want to give you a little taste of our plans.

Join us on August 28 at 6 p.m. as Christopher Baxter, CEO and President of Spotlight PA, and Heather Adams, Project Director of Spotlight PA Berks, present the results of Spotlight PA’s research and answer questions from the audience in two 45-minute Zoom sessions.

Registration is required for these events. You can register for the August 28 session here.

Spotlight PA was created to address an ongoing crisis in Pennsylvania: the rapid decline of investigative journalism and accountability serving the state’s citizens, particularly outside of its two major cities, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

In the summer of 2022, Spotlight PA opened its first regional office in State College, covering the north-central region of the state. Shortly thereafter, Berks County residents and stakeholders reached out to the nonprofit news organization to learn how it could address the decline in local news there.

A year-long study followed, examining the community’s news needs, local philanthropic capacity and the logistical requirements of expanding into a new area. For more information on the study’s findings, visit spotlightpa.org/berks/, where you can also become a founding donor to the Berks Bureau.
