“Drive sober or get pulled over” – Casper Police Department and NHTSA partner together

CASPER, Wyoming (Wyoming News Now) – From August 14 through September 2, including Labor Day weekend, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will partner with Casper Police to implement the high-visibility “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, aimed at deterring driving under the influence and preventing a repeat of the tragedies of recent months and past Labor Day weekends.

During Labor Day 2023, there were 22 injury crashes and 2 fatal crashes in Wyoming. When looking at serious crashes in 2023, nearly 22.3% of fatal crashes and 19.9% of suspected serious crashes were under the influence of alcohol.

“We want members of our community to understand that people’s safety is our top priority, so we ask everyone to plan ahead if they know they’re going to go out drinking,” said Master Officer Alyssa Baedke. “The rule is drive sober or you’ll get pulled over. The campaign is an awareness campaign to spread the message that drunk driving is illegal and costs lives. Let’s make this a partnership between law enforcement and drivers: help us keep the community safe and put an end to this senseless behavior. The Natrona County Safe Ride program is available 24/7 to all Natrona County patrons who need a safe ride home. If you’ve had too much to drink, don’t take any chances! Just ask your bartender or call (307)266-7233 from your own phone, this ride is free. A DUI is not it. Tell your friends, pull over AND stand up for them! Don’t let them make a tragic decision.”
