Free nursing courses in California can help you be better prepared in an emergency

CalGrows offers free training to all California caregivers, including unpaid family and friend caregivers

California (KYMA, KECY) – Caregivers play a critical role in helping older adults and people with disabilities remain in their own homes and communities for as long as possible, as well as contributing to their health and well-being.

The California Department of Aging launched the CalGrows program this year to give caregivers the right training and better prepare them for unexpected problems.

CalGrows offers more than 600 free courses online and in person.

Daniella Corrales of the United Domestic Workers union and spokesperson for CalGrows says there are endless courses and they even help with things you might not think of.

“This ranges from emotional stress to hoarding and budgeting for your client to wound care and proper exercise,” says Corrales.

She is a caregiver herself and looks after two clients, one of whom is her father, and can attest to how helpful these courses are.

The courses last between one and two hours.

There are financial incentives for taking courses, but they must be completed by August 31, 2024, although they are available until September 2024.

To find out if you are eligible and how to access the free support, you can visit the CalGrows website and search for courses that will provide the most benefit to you and your client/patient.

You can also call (888) 991-7234 or email [email protected].
