Workers repair a burst water pipe in Clarkstown early this morning

Veolia spent much of Wednesday repairing a 24-inch water main burst that occurred around 2 a.m. on the utility’s property on Old Mill Road in West Nyack.

There is no information yet on the cause, but workers have used new pipes and other tools to fix the problem.

“Our control center staff noticed the pressure fluctuations,” Veolia spokeswoman Sophia Salis said in a telephone interview with News 12. “They were able to react quickly and reduce the impact on customers.”

A boil water advisory has been issued for four households on Strawtown Road.

The order concerns cooking and drinking water.

Once the main water line is repaired, Veolia will send water samples to the health department and then decide whether to lift the warning.

News 12 was told the utility will notify those customers directly when the boil water advisory is no longer in effect.

“We woke up. There was a loud clanging noise,” said Michael Nunes, whose house borders the Veolia plant. He has a well, so his water is not affected. “We thought, ‘What the hell is going on here? They’re not supposed to be working at this time of night.'”

“I just went to the back of the property to see what was going on, and there was a flood flowing down the hill into the water company’s territory,” Nunes said.
