Fans get to know Kalen DeBoer

Hundreds of fans flocked to Bryant-Denny Stadium on August 11 for the University of Alabama football team’s Fan Day.

The event included a two-hour open practice followed by an autograph session where fans could meet their favorite players and coaches.

The Crimson Tide will begin the 2024 season on August 31 in Tuscaloosa against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Kickoff is at 6 p.m., ESPN will broadcast the game.

The season opener marks the debut of Kalen DeBoer as Alabama’s 28th quarterback.th Head coach of the football team.

DeBoer, 49, was hired to lead Alabama’s football program following Nick Saban’s retirement.

DeBoer comes to Tuscaloosa from the University of Washington, where he led the Huskies to the College Football Playoff national championship game on Jan. 8.

Washington lost 34-13 to the University of Michigan, the same team that knocked Alabama out of the playoffs a week earlier.

Saban, who won six national titles in 17 seasons with Alabama, announced his retirement on Jan. 10 and DeBoer was officially introduced as Alabama’s new coach on Jan. 13.

DeBoer is a South Dakota native and has a 104-12 record as a head coach. Before coming to Washington, he was the head coach at Fresno State.

As head coach of the football team at his alma mater, the University of Sioux Falls, he won three NAIA national championships.

Overall, DeBoer has 26 years of experience as a college football coach.

DeBoer earned a secondary education degree in Sioux Falls, where he played baseball and football. He and his wife, Nicole, have two daughters.
