“I’m a hairdresser – there’s one style you should avoid if you want to have better hair”

Taking proper care of your hair can cost a lot of money, from expensive products to expensive visits to the hairdresser.

However, according to a hairdresser and trichologist, there are also some free things women can do to enhance their curls. She advised ladies to avoid tight hairstyles.

Rachel Valentine warned that many popular updos are “not good for your hair.”

She said: “Tension on our scalp can cause something called traction alopecia. This happens when excessive pulling on our scalp causes hair to come loose from our follicle.”

The expert explained that this could result in “finer hair or even bald patches.” Looser hairstyles are better for the health of your hair.

She also advised women not to wear their hair in the trendy messy bun, as this could have the same negative effects.

Next, Rachel advised hair lovers not to tie their hair up when it is wet – neither with a hair tie nor with a hair clip.

She explained: “Our hair is so delicate when it’s wet. Sometimes it’s even better to just dry your hair before putting it up.”

The expert also advised that a change in diet can do wonders. The hair guru said, “Eat more protein.”

Since our hair is made up of 95 percent protein, increasing protein intake “can lead to a tremendous improvement in your hair.”

She also encouraged women to stimulate blood circulation in the scalp through scalp massages and exercises.

When styling, the hair expert advises being very careful with heat. Always use heat protection when exposed to heat, but try to limit the use as much as possible.

“Heat is so damaging to your hair,” Rachel explained, “and it’s so easy to change that.”

Trying a new hairstyle can also give women more confidence about their hairstyle.
