Ohio State Buckeyes duo among top 10 odds for Doak Walker Award

Given that Chip Kelly has had a run-heavy offense in the past, it will be interesting to see exactly what Ohio State’s offense will look like in 2024. Even though TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins will split the runs this season, they could both have excellent chances to shine in their new offensive coordinator’s scheme.

Expectations for both running backs remain high for the 2024 season. Both were recently named to the Doak Walker Award preseason watch list.

FanDuel Sportsbook has released its odds for the winner of the Doak Walker Award this season, and both of Ohio State’s running backs are in the top 10. Judkins actually has the second-best odds at +430, behind Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon (who won last year).

Although Henderson also landed in the top 10 best odds, he’s at the other end of the rankings. The veteran running back from Ohio State currently has +2600 odds to win the award, putting him in 8th place, along with Kansas’ Devin Neal and Oregon’s Jordan James.

Between the two running backs from Ohio State is Donovan Edwards of Michigan with odds of +2,000.

Ohio State is the only team to have two running backs finish in the top 10 in FanDuel’s odds for the award. While being a lone workhorse for your team can be an advantage, the explosiveness of the Buckeyes’ running backs can make up for a lighter workload.

Not only can Judkins and Henderson take the pressure off each other since they don’t have to carry the ball 30 or more times in a game, but the talented wide receivers will also draw a lot of attention. If a defense cheats to stop the run, the wide receivers will likely take advantage. If an opposing defense doesn’t pack the box, the running backs could beat them by a wide margin.

During training, the running back must carry the ball.

As long as the offensive line manages to exert constant pressure and clear running lanes, there are no limits for the two star running backs.
