Former NFL MVP reveals advice he gave Patriots rookie QB Drake Maye

Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback and Boston College graduate Matt Ryan offered Drake Maye some advice last week following Patriots training camp.

Ryan had a remarkable career that included honors as NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, NFL Offensive Player of the Year and NFL MVP. Like Maye, he was selected No. 3 in the NFL Draft, so he knows a thing or two about development and what it takes to succeed at the next level.

“I’m taking it day by day. That’s exactly what I told him after practice,” Ryan told WBZ’s Dan Roche, transcribed by NESN.com’s Adam London. “I’ve gotten to know Drake a little bit. He’s a really good guy and has a good head on his shoulders.”

“But it’s hard, isn’t it? There will be days when you feel like things aren’t going well. But you have to keep coming back with the same attitude and intensity and see how the little progress develops. Before you know it, you’ll feel good. That’s what you need. It just takes hard work, day after day.”

All eyes have been on Maye throughout training camp, and getting advice from one of the best quarterbacks in recent memory is certainly not a bad thing.

We’ll see how he uses those skills when he steps onto an NFL field for the first time on Thursday night in the Patriots’ season opener against the Carolina Panthers.
