How to prevent the Journal app from recognizing your iPhone

Introduced in iOS 17.2, the iPhone’s Journal app includes a feature called Discoverable by Others. This may sound disconcerting at first, but it’s not as worrisome as it seems. When Discoverable by Others is enabled, other iPhone users can discover your device via Bluetooth, increasing the relevance of journal suggestions for you and other users.

When iPhones are nearby, Journal can collect information about the number of contacts that may be nearby and prompt users to create a journal entry based on the situation. For example, you might get a writing prompt to reflect on your meeting with a friend with iPhone.
