Dyson has launched hair care products: Here is our honest review

Once upon a time, Dyson was known for its vacuum cleaners. Now? Well, you probably think of hair care devices first. Since the launch of the now-iconic Dyson Supersonic hairdryer in 2016, it’s fair to say the brand has become a pioneer in the hair care industry – not to mention the Dyson Airwrap and Dyson Airstrait, which have dominated the realm of #HairTok for years. Yes, Dyson fever shows absolutely no signs of abating.

So imagine the excitement of the masses when rumors started circulating about the launch of a new Dyson product. But this time it’s not a tool. This time it’s the brand’s first hair care and styling products. Discover the range of products with Dyson Chitosan™ formulas.

What does the Dyson Chitosan™ formulation spectrum include?

Not surprisingly, there’s over a decade of research behind this latest foray – especially when it comes to the ingredients. The range is based on chitosan, a complex macromolecule derived from oyster mushrooms and developed using Dyson Triodetic™ technology. “Delicate yet strong, chitosan gives the mushroom its shape and forms the basis of Dyson’s flexible hold,” says the brand. And what about Dyson Triodetic™ technology? “Triodetic™ technology flexibly sets styles with a lightweight structure of bonds – without stickiness, brittleness or crunch.” It’s these flexible bonds that give hair movement and flexibility for an all-day hold.

What is included in the Dyson Chitosan™ formulations range?

The range is available in two formats and has been “designed for all hair types”. There is a pre-style cream (available in four variants, precisely blended with ingredients tailored to different natural hair types) and a post-style serum, which is designed to provide “hold, hydration and definition to final styles”.

Dyson Chitosan Pre-Style Cream

Dyson Pre Style Cream

Rachael Martin, Beauty Editor, says:“This styling cream is a joy to use. I cup it in the palms of my hands and spread it through my wet hair. The texture is silky and serum-like and feels incredibly nourishing – it contains highly effective silicones that provide smoothness and maintain shine. I’ve also noticed an impressive reduction in the frizz that often forms around my crown – even on days with high humidity. I use the light conditioning option for straight to wavy hair, but be sure to check out the four variants to find the best formula for your individual hair type – each ingredient is precisely tailored to different natural hair shapes.”

Will Kerr, Vice President of New Product Development at Dyson, says: “Hair is unique. We’ve discovered through research that one formula can’t do it all. By adjusting the polymer and emollient levels in each variant, using lighter oils like grapeseed oil for the light variants and richer oils like castor oil for the rich variants, the formulas can be customized to your specific needs.”

Dyson Chitosan Post-Style Serum

Rachel says: “This product is suitable for all hair types (including coloured and chemically treated hair) and is designed to ‘hold and define’ your finished style. I think this is the perfect product for me – I hate the sticky feeling of hairspray so this is a great alternative as it’s lightweight. It offers great flexible hold, hydrates and adds shine. It’s also packed with hair-beautifying ingredients like hyaluronic acid to nourish hair and reduce frizz and amino acids to repair surface damage. A little goes a long way so I’d say while it’s an investment, one bottle can last for months.”

Matthew Collins, Dyson Ambassador: “The promise of flexible retention with movement and shine
is an innovation that I know from over 20 years of working as a celebrity stylist will benefit many. This
is exactly why Dyson wanted to solve common frustrations with its first product line and design something for all hair types.”
