Temporary animal adoption center opens on Avenue at White Marsh

NOTTINGHAM, MD — A temporary animal adoption center opened this month on the Avenue at White Marsh for a month-long blitz.

The space will host pet adoption events every weekend in August to support the nationwide initiative to create 3,000 adoptions this month.

The campaign, called Maryland 3,000, is organized by the Baltimore Animal Welfare Alliance, also known as BAWA, which includes the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS), Baltimore County Animal Services, the Baltimore Humane Society and the Maryland SPCA.

The Avenue donated 26,000 square feet of space to BAWA for its efforts in August. The adoption center, located at 8157 Honeygo Blvd. Suite G, is between Men’s Wearhouse and The Local.

The Avenue also donated $500 each to BARCS Animal ShelterThe Maryland SPCAThe Baltimore Humane Society and friends of dogs from Baltimore County.

“The number of animals currently needing adoption can seem overwhelming,” The Avenue said on its adoption center’s website. “It’s incredibly important to provide them with food, water, medical care, shelter from the elements, release from their suffering, and provide them with a caring human presence. The good news is that WE have the power to create an environment where the community chooses shelter animals first!”

Thirty-eight pets were adopted at The Avenue in the first weekend. There are three more weekends to find a furry friend. There are no adoption fees.
