Seven new principals appointed for Wayne Schools, including four promotions

WAYNE, NJ — With the start of the new school year at Wayne Township Public Schools, seven new administrators will begin serving in various roles across the school district.

The first day of school for the 2024/25 school year is Thursday, September 5th.

Recently Appointed School Officials a new director of technology, director of educational technology and assistant principal for student support services, new principals for the Early Childhood Center and Lafayette Elementary School, and an assistant principal for physical education for both Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills High School.

Four of those appointments already worked for Wayne Schools, said Superintendent Dr. Mark Toback, adding that the district was fortunate to have “outstanding candidates for these important positions.”

“The candidates all have something in common,” he said. “They have a history of holding themselves to the highest professional standards and they all have great professional experience that will benefit our school system. I am also pleased that four of the seven appointments are current school district employees who have been promoted.”

Here is more information about these administrators and their responsibilities at Wayne Public Schools:

Suzanne Fioravanti, Technology Director

“Ms. Fioravanti has dedicated over eighteen years to supporting and advancing educational technology. With a solid foundation in computer science and a passion for innovation, she has gradually assumed leadership roles in her district, evolving from a computer technician to her current position. As Director of Technology, Ms. Fioravanti oversees the strategic implementation and management of technology infrastructure, software, and digital learning platforms. She is committed to fostering a dynamic learning environment that empowers both students and teachers through the use of technology.”

Jessica Shoja, Director of Educational Technology

“Dr. Shoja is an experienced education leader with a proven track record of integrating technology into learning environments. With over 16 years of experience in a variety of school settings, Dr. Shoja has served in a variety of roles including middle and high school social studies teacher and social studies, curriculum development and integrated instructional technology coordinator/supervisor. Her New Jersey certifications include social studies teacher, supervisor and principal. Additionally, Dr. Shoja holds a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Innovation from Wilmington University, a Master of Science in Education from Fordham University and a Bachelor of Arts in History, also from Fordham. Her advanced degrees and extensive professional experience have given her a comprehensive understanding of the educational landscape and the critical role technology plays in our schools and society.”

Patricia Monaco, Principal of the Preakness Early Childhood Center

“Ms. Monaco has been the Assistant Principal for Preschool/Elementary School in Student Support Services in Wayne since 2017. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Hartford, a Master’s degree in Special Education: Early Childhood from Teachers College of Columbia University, and a second Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University. She began her career in early childhood education and preschool in New York City, then moved to New Jersey where she taught preschool for many years and then moved to elementary school. Ms. Monaco obtained certification in the Tools of the Mind curriculum as a classroom teacher and enjoyed mentoring colleagues.

“Ms. Monaco has developed special programs to meet the needs of students. She has created meetings with parents of children with special needs and is excited to see the Gathering Spot grow in Wayne. She is committed to inclusion and building independence for all students. In her free time, Ms. Monaco enjoys spending time with her husband, adult children and dog, traveling and reading.”

Melissa Avgerinos, principal of Lafayette Elementary School

“Ms. Avgerinos has served as the Assistant Elementary Principal in the Oradell Public School District since 2021. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from New York University, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from William Paterson, and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University. She began her teaching career in Franklin Lakes, NJ as a substitute teacher for kindergarten. From there, she found a home in the Edgewater School District. In the fourteen years she was there, Ms. Avgerinos taught kindergarten, first grade, third grade, reading remediation for students in grades 3-6, and the gifted program. She has also served as a curriculum specialist, reading coach, and overseen federal programs.

“In her role as principal of Lafayette School, Ms. Avgerinos strives to help students develop confidence and the ability to collaborate with others. She hopes to provide students with the opportunity to develop a growth mindset, take responsibility for their learning, and become leaders within the school community.”

Richard Pascuito, Assistant Principal for Student Services

“Mr. Pasciuto began his career in education after earning a Bachelor of Science in behavioral studies from the University of Hartford. While teaching in the Hackensack public school system, Mr. Pasciuto was a lead teacher for grades kindergarten through 2 and a teacher of a behaviorally disabled class.

“During this time, Mr. Pasciuto continued his academic career by earning a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University. He then moved to Haworth Public School as a special education teacher before joining the Hillsdale Public Schools system. At Hillsdale, he served as an intermediate English teacher and as a special education teacher at George White Middle School, where he assumed leadership roles including actively participating in district-wide initiatives, developing curriculum, promoting professional development programs, and creating the counseling program.

“These leadership experiences ultimately led Mr. Pasciuto to pursue a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership at Ramapo College of New Jersey. For the past year, Mr. Pasciuto has focused on developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and services. He looks forward to supporting students, staff, and parents in his new role and continuing to foster a student-centered, growth-oriented learning environment. In his free time, Mr. Pasciuto enjoys working with wood, teaching yoga, and spending time with his family.”

Jason Carcich, Assistant Athletic Director at Wayne Valley HS

“Mr. Jason Carcich brings a wealth of experience to Wayne Valley High School, as his career took him through Theunis Dey Elementary School and George Washington Middle School before settling at Wayne Valley High School. Mr. Carcich continued his education by earning two master’s degrees and a principal’s certificate. Over the past three decades, Jason has also served as the head coach of the girls’ and boys’ volleyball programs, contributing to the athletic and personal development of countless student-athletes. During his tenure as coach, the volleyball program has amassed over 800 victories, winning three state championships, as well as 17 district titles and 17 conference titles. Jason is also a Hall of Fame inductee through the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association. His commitment to both academics and athletics reflects his passion for developing well-rounded individuals ready to meet the challenges of life beyond their high school years.”

Ryan Bayley, Assistant Athletic Director at Wayne Hills HS

“Mr. Ryan Bayley has dedicated his career to education and athletics, serving as a special education teacher at George Washington Middle School for 18 years. Throughout his tenure, he has been passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs and fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. His commitment extends beyond academics as he actively engages with students to ensure their holistic development and success.

“In addition to his role as an instructor, Ryan was heavily involved as a coach for over 13 years at Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley, coaching a variety of sports including boys soccer, ice hockey, girls basketball, boys lacrosse and golf. His coaching philosophy emphasizes teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship. He led numerous teams to championships and instilled a lifelong love of the sport in his athletes.”
