How can we focus our minds on the things above?

Last fall, I visited Shepherd’s House Bible Church in Arizona and spoke at their college/young adult service, “The Fold.” Although the focus was on young adults, many of the important questions I was asked are applicable to believers of all ages.

I love this church and especially this ministry, which has played a major role in the life of one of my grandchildren as he attends college nearby! And in the fall, his brother will be attending the same college with him and plans to attend Shepherd’s House as well.

(Many students, even at Christian colleges, fall away from the church during college, and many of them never find a solid commitment to the church again. I cannot recommend highly enough that parents encourage their college-age children to join a Bible-based, Jesus-centered church—do your homework, shop around, and consider visiting some good churches near the college together to help them get started.)

One of the questions I was asked at The Fold was, “What are some practical ways to keep our minds on the things above?” Since we are commanded to do this in Colossians 3:2, it is important that we consider how this can be put into practice:
