Busy intersection in Phoenix remains closed after water pipe burst

PHOENIX – Officials said Thursday that repairs at the busy intersection of 24th Street and Camelback Road in Phoenix will continue through the end of the month.

The work involves a complex excavation process, with the surrounding infrastructure presenting particular challenges, the Phoenix Water Services Department said.

Traffic restrictions have been in place since Monday morning as workers began emergency repairs to a broken water main at the southeast corner of the Biltmore-area intersection.

Officials hope the final paving will be completed by August 31.

What is traffic like at the busy Phoenix intersection during repairs?

Currently, traffic at the intersection is restricted in three directions.

Camelback Road eastbound is narrowed to one lane up to 24th Street.

Only one lane of northbound 24th Street is open and right turns onto eastbound Camelback Road are prohibited.

In addition, left turns from southbound 24th Street onto eastbound Camelback Road are prohibited.

Restrictions may change as repairs progress, officials said.

Motorists are asked to expect delays at the busy Phoenix intersection and to avoid the area if possible.
