Michigan transfer loves the way Sherrone Moore runs things

The Michigan Wolverines have had great success finding talent in the transfer portal recently and hope to continue that success with their latest transfer in 2024. On the defensive side, Sherrone Moore’s team has signed five players who all have a chance to make big contributions this fall. One of those players is defensive back Wesley Walker, who joined after three years at Georgia Tech and two years at Tennessee.

During a meeting with the media on Thursday, Walker recounted his first experiences as part of a football program led by Sherrone Moore.

“Sherrone is a great guy first and foremost. But as far as practice goes, he keeps things in order. He makes sure everything runs smoothly. In fact, it’s the smoothest practice I’ve ever been to. It’s all about the ball and that’s what it should always be. It’s not really a lot of ‘rah-rah’ stuff. It’s just about the ball, getting in there and getting better.”

Walker, who is entering his sixth season, wanted to make sure he found the perfect fit for his final year of college football. From the facilities to the support staff, the veteran DB said there was no better option than the University of Michigan.

“I felt like Michigan was the right place for me. This is my last year, so I’m just trying to find a place that will give me the smoothest transition and align with my career goals. When the opportunity came up, I knew I had to come and see what it was like. Once I got here, it was a no-brainer.

“The facilities, the opportunity to get my body in shape – not just in the offseason but in the season as well. The coaching staff was really open with me and gave me a good picture of how they thought I could fit into the defense. Overall, it just seemed like the best fit for me and what I was looking for.”

With Rod Moore out due to injury, Walker definitely has the opportunity to establish himself as a player the Wolverines can rely on in the secondary this fall. He will still have to fight week in and week out for that opportunity, but the veteran DB says he welcomes the competition and looks forward to showing what he can do on fall Saturdays.

“To be honest, if Rod (Moore) hadn’t been injured, I probably wouldn’t have come here. But as far as his place as a substitute goes, we’re different players. I’m me and he’s him, so it’s just a given. But I’m looking forward to showing the fans my style of play and the way I play.”
