The Ohio State football team will have a new starting quarterback for the third consecutive year. After the departure of Kyle McCord in the offseason, the Buckeyes searched the transfer portal for someone with experience who could compete for the starting job.
They chose Will Howard. He transferred to the program with one year of eligibility left. It was assumed that he would be the starting quarterback as soon as he entered the program. Why else would he have transferred in the first place?
Of course, Howard had to earn the job. He couldn’t just show up and automatically get the starting spot. There are a lot of talented quarterbacks on the roster and Howard had to show he was the best of them. He did that and Ryan Day officially named him the starting quarterback for this season.
So what does this mean for the Ohio State Buckeyes? What does this mean for the offense? The Buckeyes are getting a quarterback who can take the ball and run when he needs to. He will also be used on planned runs. That’s what happens when you’re the fastest quarterback on the roster.
In addition to his ability to run two offenses at once, Howard also has a strong arm. He is capable of making all the throws necessary to lead an elite offense. The difference between his current and former self at Kansas State will be evident on the field when the season begins.
This is by far the most talented team he has ever played on. The receivers are by far the best he has ever played with. He doesn’t have to make more than two attempts to find an open player. If the first two attempts aren’t enough, he just picks up the ball and runs.
Howard gives this offense the best chance to do great things right now, and Ohio State football fans should be happy with Ryan Day’s decision.
