Vikings’ Jordan Addison is not expected to be out for “an extended period of time”

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said Thursday that the ankle injury suffered by wide receiver Jordan Addison during a joint practice with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday was not serious.

“I don’t think he’s going to be out for a long time,” O’Connell told reporters in Cleveland.

Although O’Connell did not elaborate on what constitutes an “extended period,” it’s still positive news for the Vikings considering he was carried off the practice field on Wednesday after suffering what appeared to be a serious injury. Addison was a standout rookie for the Vikings last season, catching 70 passes for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The update on Addison is a necessary break for the Vikings team, which has already suffered more than its fair share of setbacks and injuries this training camp and preseason.

Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson was killed in a tragic three-vehicle crash in early July, cornerback Mekhi Blackmon suffered a torn ACL, cornerback Shaq Griffin is battling a leg injury, tight end TJ Hockenson is expected to miss the start of the season as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered late last year, and rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy is out for the rest of the season after undergoing full meniscus surgery following a strong preseason debut.

In addition to the Addison news, O’Connell said linebacker Blake Cashman injured a finger during practice on Wednesday and will require surgery. He is expected to return once stitches heal.
