In Drake Maye’s preseason debut, the New England Patriots’ rookie quarterback was limited to just six snaps. Of course, that meant the third pick didn’t have much of a chance to make a strong impression. On Thursday, however, Maye played his second preseason game and was noticeably more active.

How did Maye do? Instead of Bazooka Joe Milton stealing the show, this time Maye took the spotlight and he passed the test with flying colors.

Jacoby Brissett started for the New England Patriots, but after completing three drives, including an interception, Drake Maye was about to shine.

Unlike his preseason debut, Maye was allowed to lead the Patriots on four drives. He led the Patriots to a field goal on his first opportunity and finished his second with his first NFL touchdown on a quarterback keeper tackle.

Any time you can score a touchdown, you’re doing something right. But that was just the tip of the iceberg. As impressive as Maye’s ability to make plays with his legs was, analysts were much more excited about what he did with his arm.

The crazy thing is, Maye could have nearly doubled that yardage total if rookie Javon Baker had also caught that deep ball.
