Rogers City Community & Senior Center asks for donations for roof repair – WBKB 11

The Senior Center in Rogers City is asking the public for help in repairing the roof. We are standing in front of the Senior Center in Rogers City where some problems with the roof are being fixed. “Our roof is leaking and needs to be replaced. It’s not about repairs. The entire membrane roof and the sheathing underneath need to be replaced because it no longer meets current codes. So we need to replace everything. I am asking the public for help so that the roof can be replaced and we can continue all of these wonderful services that we offer here at the center. Hopefully we can raise enough funds so that we can get this done in the fall and be fully operational again next summer,” said Karen Meyers, board member of the Senior Center.

This issue definitely needs to be addressed. “Well, probably at least two years ago, we were training in our larger space. And of course, that meant we had a lot more room for more people. It started leaking, and they said it wasn’t really safe to be in there because of the leaking and the slips and falls and so forth. So we moved into this space, which at times probably had up to thirty people for the exercise class. And unfortunately, it’s not big enough and it gets pretty cramped in here for people. I think we’ve lost some of our people just because we don’t have more space,” said Ken Leppert6, volunteer at the senior center. The Rogers City Senior Center could use all the support from the community it can get. “Once we replace the roof of this building, we can use it for a lot of activities for seniors and the community. We rent it out and also give it out to people for their activities. We have Boy Scouts that meet here. We have church groups that meet here. We’re having dinner, said Meyers.
