Drake Maye scored his first NFL touchdown.

After failing to reach the end zone in his first preseason game, the New England Patriots quarterback managed to score a running goal in Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles won 14-13, but Maye got love from Eagles star Jalen Hurts after the game:

The quarterback made his best play in the second quarter when he gave the Pats a 10-3 lead with a four-yard run.

In total, he managed 15 yards four times and 47 passing yards, completing six of his eleven passes.

Mayes’ passing skills were evident when he moved to the NFL after a successful career at North Carolina, but on Thursday he reminded fans that he has the athleticism needed to be dangerous on the ground.

Drake Maye has the kind of athleticism we haven’t seen in New England in a long time

Maye’s primary role is to find receivers through the air, but as he continues to develop, he could establish himself as a solid running threat as well. He had 1,140 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns during his time with the Tar Heels. With the Patriots, he will look to take the ground attack to the next level.

So far in the preseason, Maye has 66 passing yards on 8 of 13 passing, along with 15 rushing yards and a touchdown. He has been used in limited games in two games, but he has given fans confidence that he can have a successful rookie year if the Patriots bet on him this season.
