SEPTEMBER 7: “Cinderella Story”, free theater in the park

A special experience awaits you at the Free Theatre in the Parks in West Hollywood: a unique mashup opera of Jules Massenet and Gioacchino Rossini Cinderella The story is the focus. The six performances begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Kings Road Park, 1000 N. Kings Road. Shows will run every Saturday and Sunday through September 22. Admission is free, but seating is first come, first served, so get there early. Registration is requested at https://cinderella-weho2024.eventbrite.com.

Presented by the Pacific Opera Project (POP) and the Arts Division of the City of West Hollywood, this reinterpreted opera brings together the best of Massenet’s Cendrillon and Rossini’s Cenerentola with POP’s signature flair. The story follows a young girl’s journey from maid to princess, full of humor, unexpected twists and beloved characters such as a charming prince, two evil stepsisters and an overly dramatic king. The 90-minute, family-friendly production is sung in English and features a live piano.

Directed by Jack Zager, the cast includes Lydia Brown, Jessica Gonzalez-Rodriguez, Byron Mayes, Christina Pezzarossi, Dominic Salvati, Emily Scott and Christopher Walters. Expect a performance that will make you smile and feel “happily ever after.”

Founded in 2011, the Pacific Opera Project is known for its accessible and affordable opera productions that attract both novices and seasoned fans. With nearly 50 operas under its belt, POP continues to be a vibrant part of LA’s arts scene.
