After completing only one drive in the New England Patriots’ first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, rookie quarterback Drake Maye played a longer game in the second game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Maye entered the game early in the second quarter, replacing expected starter Jacoby Brissett, who played the entire first quarter. In the first, six of his 11 attempts were completed for just 47 yards. He led the team on two scoring drives, allowed Joey Slye to make a 51-yard field goal and scored on a four-yard run of his own in the second quarter.
Although Maye didn’t throw any big passes in this game, the former Tar Heel’s best throw of the night was a long pass to fellow rookie Javon Baker. Maye put the ball where only his receiver could catch it, but the fourth-round pick couldn’t handle the pass and the ball bounced incomplete.
I’m SO disappointed that Javon Baker didn’t finish it. What a great throw by Drake Maye pic.twitter.com/LTQw0sGRfO

Maye was eventually replaced in the fourth quarter by sixth-round pick Joe Milton III.
